How to Use Greener Living Soap Nuts

Soap Nuts as a Laundry Detergent

Place 4-5 soap nuts in the small drawstring bag, tie it closed and throw it into the drum your washing machine. You can use this batch for 4-6 loads of laundry. The soap nuts will be mushy and light gray when they are ready to be discarded, or better yet, composted. Alternatively, you can use 3Tbsp. of soap nuts liquid detergent per large load of laundry.

To Make Soap Nuts Liquid

Boil 10-12 whole soap nuts with 6 cups of water until it is boiled down to about 4 cups of liquid detergent (about 20-30 minutes or so). It is better to make the liquid in smaller batches as it has no preservatives and can spoil. We have had no problem storing the liquid for a week or two.
